Monday, August 17th, touring around like tourists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>we were looking forward to a day of not hiking on the coast path; instead, we got up and headed over to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stdavidscathedral.org.uk\/\">St. David&#8217;s Cathedral<\/a>, hoping to beat the crowds.<\/p>\n<p>first, a hearty breakfast of poached eggs on toast. \u00a0mmm, it was a tasty start to the day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12745\" src=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w463.jpg\" alt=\"w463\" width=\"400\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w463.jpg 400w, https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w463-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>we walked over to St. David&#8217;s Cathedral around ten in the morning, and the crowds weren&#8217;t bad at all yet. another sunny and glorious day!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12746\" src=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w464.jpg\" alt=\"w464\" width=\"400\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w464.jpg 400w, https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w464-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>there has been a cathedral on the site since the 6th century, and they&#8217;ve had prayers and services for the past 1500 years. \u00a0a pretty long time.<\/p>\n<p>my goal was to get some photos without people in them which wasn&#8217;t so hard to do.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12747\" src=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w465.jpg\" alt=\"w465\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w465.jpg 540w, https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w465-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>here&#8217;s some background on St. David:<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\"><em>David was born in the year 500, the son of St Non and a prince of Ceredigion.\u00a0 Legend states that Non gave birth to him on a cliff top during a violent storm.\u00a0 The present cathedral stands on the site of the monastery he founded in the inhospitable area known as &#8216;Glyn Rhosyn.&#8217;\u00a0 David and his followers lived a simple life; they refrained from eating meat or drinking beer.\u00a0 David&#8217;s symbol, now a national symbol of Wales, is the leek.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\"><em>David rose to become a bishop in the church and made several pilgrimages including one to Jerusalem during which, tradition states, he brought back with him a stone which now sits in an altar in the south transept of the cathedral.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\"><em>The best known miracle associated with David is said to have taken place when he was preaching in the middle of a large crowd at the Synod of Llanddewi Brefi.\u00a0 When those at the back complained that they could not hear him, the ground on which he stood is reputed to have risen up to form a small hill so that everyone had a good view.\u00a0 A white dove settled on his shoulder, a sign of God&#8217;s grace and blessing.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\"><em>David died in the year 589 and the monastery is said to have been &#8216;filled with angels as Christ received his soul&#8217;.\u00a0 His final words to his followers were: &#8216;Be Joyful.\u00a0 Keep the Faith.\u00a0 Do the little things that you have heard and seen me do.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>his mother, as state above, was St. Non. \u00a0More on her in the next post.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12748\" src=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w466.jpg\" alt=\"w466\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w466.jpg 540w, https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w466-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>i took this picture because i spotted the two greyhounds there at the bottom. \u00a0there isn&#8217;t much in explanation about this saint, st. caradog\u00a0on the placard next to it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12749\" src=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w467.jpg\" alt=\"w467\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w467.jpg 540w, https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w467-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12750\" src=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w468.jpg\" alt=\"w468\" width=\"400\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w468.jpg 400w, https:\/\/graceuncensored.com\/WordPress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/w468-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>but this is what wikipedia had to say:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Caradoc was a Welsh nobleman, native of <a style=\"color: #000000;\" title=\"Brecknockshire\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brecknockshire\">Brecknockshire<\/a>, who, after he had received a liberal education, enjoyed the confidence of Rees, prince of South Wales, and held an honourable place in his court. The prince one day, on account of two greyhounds which were lost, fell into such a fury against Caradoc as to threaten his life. Caradoc, from this disgrace learned the inconstancy of worldly honours, and repaired to <a style=\"color: #000000;\" title=\"Llandaff Cathedral\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Llandaff_Cathedral\">Landaff<\/a>, where he received from the bishop the clerical tonsure, and for some time served God in the church of St. Theliau.<sup id=\"cite_ref-butler_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saint_Caradoc#cite_note-butler-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Desirous of finding solitude, he afterwards spent some years in a little hut, which he built himself, near the abandoned church of St. Cendydd Church<sup id=\"cite_ref-butler_2-1\" class=\"reference\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saint_Caradoc#cite_note-butler-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup> in <a style=\"color: #000000;\" title=\"Gower Peninsula\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gower_Peninsula\">Gower<\/a>, later taking up residence on <a style=\"color: #000000;\" title=\"Barry Island\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Barry_Island\">Barry Island<\/a> at St. Issels. His reputation for sanctity filled the whole country, and the archbishop of Menevia, or St. David\u2019s, calling him to that town, promoted him to priestly orders. Caradoc then retired with certain devout companions, to the isle of Ary. Certain pirates from Norway, who often infested these coasts, carried them off prisoners, but, fearing the judgments of God, safely set them on shore again the next day.
