This was Monday, January 5th – one whole full glorious day on captiva island, sunup to sundown.<\/p>\n

which meant we had to get up early to see the sunrise.\u00a0 not THAT early, because the sun was scheduled to rise at, hmm, something like 7:16.\u00a0 i got up right before 7, in time to make a cup of lapsang souchong tea.\u00a0 we carried our hot beverages down the street across the island, in all of about five minutes.<\/p>\n

here’s the fabulous green flash restaurant, the closest vantage point across the insland.<\/p>\n

right before the sun came up, with a sailboat moored just over there…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

birds skimmed the water, such a pretty sight…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

the birds continued on their way, not caring at all about the sun that was about to rise.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

almost up!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

the first little glimmer…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

it just happens so fast!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

and then a big boat zoomed by.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

DANG, i wish i WAS NOT SO LAZY.\u00a0 i should get up EVERY SINGLE MORNING and watch the sun rise!<\/p>\n

the advantage of doing that in the winter is that it rises pretty late…this morning, for example, it rose at 7:01.\u00a0 perfectly doable.<\/p>\n

IF I JUST WASN’T SO LAZY!!!<\/p>\n

maybe when the play is over…have i mentioned that i’m going to be in a play?\u00a0 opening soon…<\/p>\n

but back to the early captiva island morning…<\/p>\n

after taking many photos there at the green flash, we walked a block or so up to the twin palms marina to see if we could spot any manatees.\u00a0 i can’t recall ever actually seeing one, but of course that doesn’t mean that i’ve never seen one, it just means that i have a very bad memory.<\/p>\n

besides being SO LAZY.<\/p>\n

anyway, we walked to the end of the pier; people were out already, getting ready to fish, stuff like that.\u00a0 not a lot of people, but some.<\/p>\n

at first we saw some bubbles out in the water…exciting…must be manatees!<\/p>\n

i started taking pictures, but there was really nothing to see.\u00a0 but then they came right up to the dock!<\/p>\n

a mother and a baby!!!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

eventually, they swam away.\u00a0 but it was a fine manatee sighting, on that warm and perfect january morning.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

after a while we strolled to the end of the block to the little corner store.\u00a0 even though i’d packed such a ridiculous amount of stuff, and then i’d brought quite a lot of it from our campsite to captiva…somehow we forgot toothpaste.<\/p>\n

luckily the little shop had toothpaste, although we wandered around in it for a little bit and they didn’t really have anything intersting or unique.\u00a0 just lots of expensively-priced stuff.<\/p>\n

we then wandered down the main street, back to the gulf side of the island, and took a leisurely stroll down the beach back to our hotel.\u00a0 along the way, i kept seeing so many shells, and even though i’d said I’M NOT GOING TO GET ANY SHELLS BECAUSE WE ALREADY HAVE PLENTY OF SHELLS AND WE HAVE NO ROOM TO PUT THEM, i had to pick some up.<\/p>\n

and then i had nowhere to put them, so i started putting them in my tea cup.<\/p>\n

i got more shells than this that day, and i put them all in an empty pringle’s can, which is now sitting in the music room and WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO PUT THE SHELLS?\u00a0 but they are quite nice.<\/p>\n

we breakfasted out on our screened porch, and then went back to the beach!<\/p>\n

this is taken from our room; the building there is the one we walked under to get out to the sand.<\/p>\n

here’s the outside of our cute little place.\u00a0 IT’S SEVENTY ONE THERE RIGHT NOW!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

we can’t go back, not now, maybe next year?\u00a0 i have been researching other warm weather options, too, but i can’t imagine finding anything better than our little place.<\/p>\n

this day on captiva was filled with many other things, including lunch at this fabulous place called the bubble room, a place that needed to be photographed by me many, many times.<\/p>\n
