just one more thing this morning - you might wonder why there’s not one but TWO blinking OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT links over there on the right side of the screen. the first one is the link to you tube, and the one we added is the one to the site DIGG. so you could watch it in two different places.
the thing about digg is - well, i’m not sure what the thing about digg is. you can watch or read things on digg, and then if you want, you can “digg” them, that is, you indicate that they’re worth watching or reading. and then you have “dugg” them.
and this digg expert named dave heinzel (who happens to live RIGHT HERE IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD) who e-mailed me about the whole digg phenomenon said that you could, theoretically, get a lot of people to watch a video on you tube, but you could get even MORE people to watch it on digg. the problem with digg being that you have to sign up for digg in order to digg something. so that it will be dugg. and you have to have at least more than 20 or so diggs in order for more people to watch and then hopefully digg it.
right now i don’t have 20 diggs on digg, so maybe i’ll take that link away, because it does seem a little bit untidy, the two in a row flashing links over there.
digg?
ok that’s REALLY all for now on this much too cold thursday morning,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!

BELATED birthday that is. mom’s birthday was TWO DAYS AGO and i didn’t wish her happy birthday then because i’m a BAD DAUGHTER!
ok, trying to make up for it, here are two travelling photos of mom. the first, she’s on the Necker bridge in Heidelberg. this was when she was on a trip in college.

and here, a couple of years ago, mom was in switzerland with the eddy flute choir. so she’s on a bridge once again, somewhere in the country of switzerland.

we did take mom out for lunch on her birthday, and on saturday night we’re having dinner here at home for her.
what have i been so busy with that i forgot to wish mom happy birthday on here? well, mostly my VERY VERY CRITICAL AND IMPORTANT JOB.
see, i now feel that if i don’t OBSESSIVELY READ ALL THE ONLINE STORIES about barack obama and the campaign, that things could FALL APART AT ANY MINUTE.
this is taking up quite a bit of my time, and i don’t know how to stop.
and i’m also checking to see if more people have watched my BARACK OBAMA MUSIC VIDEO on you tube, because i feel that by watching it, people will feel COMPELLED to vote for him.
so it’s just another nutty day around here.
kevin is making very slow progress on his knee, but slow progress is better than no progress at all.
that is all, i have to look things up some more now.
ok then,
politicograce.

why am i doing this to myself, why do i continue to read and read and obsessively keep reading so many stories about the campaign? hillary has decided she’s going to ATTACK OBAMA NO MATTER WHAT and i’m so incredibly annoyed by her and i don’t want to read anything else but somehow i can’t stop...
i did get an interesting response from a woman about my video. well, i’m not sure if it was actually about my video; she wrote that she thought my “dream” about obama was great. but her website is quite interesting; she write about people’s actual dreams they’ve had about him. here is her website; i really think you should look at it. it’s only one little click away. I DREAM OF OBAMA
that is all for now. try to stay sane. that’s my immediate goal for the day.

not me, of course. i’m still sitting here in my jammies on the couch watching meet the press, reading the paper and saving the comics for last.
but kevin, he was up early and has gone off to shoot things.
targets, that is. with the Single Action Shooting Society, the new group he has become a member of. it’s an international organization with chapters all over, and kevin’s friend jerry introduced him to the club. so once a month, early on sunday morning, kevin now gets all duded up and goes out to shoot. here’s a little bit of information about the SASS from their website:
One of the unique aspects of SASS approved Cowboy Action Shooting™ is the requirement placed on costuming. Each participant is required to adopt a shooting alias appropriate to a character or profession of the late 19th century, a Hollywood western star, or an appropriate character from fiction. Their costume is then developed accordingly. Many event participants gain more enjoyment from the costuming aspect of our sport than from the shooting competition, itself. Regardless of a SASS member’s individual area of interest, SASS events provide regular opportunities for fellowship and fun with like-minded folks and families.
and here’s the website, in case you might want to learn more: Single Action Shooting Society
kevin and i went to their annual luncheon about a month ago and i desperately wished i’d taken a camera. one guy was, indeed, dressed like a hollywood wester actor, with a lavish blue shirt with yellow flowers and some rhinestones, and his boots...they were magnificent. red white and blue. DANG, they would have been a perfect final touch for my video. but they probably would have been too big for me. plus it would have been tricky to try to wrest them away from the guy.
anyway, so they all get dressed up and tote all their old-timey guns and shotguns to this range and commence a shootin.
here is kevin, ready to go. at this point mollie hopes that she might get to go, too, but they don’t allow cowboy dogs.

here he’s standing next to this thing he’s been building for the past couple of days. it’s a carrier for his guns, plus a little box for bullets and extra...stuff.

here are the kitties, milling about on the kitchen counter waiting for more food, not caring about the lack of hygiene because of kitties on the counter, not really caring who is staying or going, they JUST WANT MORE FOOD.

kevin, all loaded up with all his stuff...

and here he is, going out into the cold grey morning, ready to shoot 'em up.

i guess i should get up off the couch now. i hope your sunday is fun-filled and warm. we’re headed to randy’s house tonight for a HUGE OSCARS BASH.
ok then,
still sunday morning grace.

ugh. i got up to watch “meet the press” and ralph has just announced that he is going to run for president. and then he was blathering on for a long time about how democrats shouldn’t put any blame on him for florida in 2000. on and on and on.
now tim russert asked ralph how he’d feel if somehow mccain won over obama because of him, ralph.
ralph is now expounding for about 200 million minutes about how the democrats had better win BIG, and don’t blame me
ralph nader is going to be 74 years old this wednesday. he’s looking mighty old. ugh.
tim russert is now pointing that out, how old ralph is. ralph is saying that david letterman was mean when he was making fun of mccain’s age (ralph is older even than mccain).

i was flipping the channels on the tv as i jogged at the fit club this morning, switching from “bewitched,” a not very good movie about a witch, and “hocus pocus,” an also not very good movie about a bunch of witches. neither was very entertaining, but they helped the time pass and were slightly more interesting than watching the weather channel as the temperature outside very slowly climbed.
every once in a while, though, i checked CNN to see if there was any campaign news. last night i stayed up till midnight obessively reading many campaign articles, even though i was too tired to be up. there was an especially interesting one about the New York Times and the uproar regarding their piece on john mccain. the editor answered some of the avalanche of e-mail they got about the story, and it was quite entertaining.
after i’d been jogging for 45 minutes i was ready to cool down, but then i turned to CNN once again - and there was hillary, making mincemeat out of all the other witchy performances on the other channels.
hillary was mad. mad mad mad, very mad, shaking her fist, and i imagine she was stomping her feet in rage. she was ranting and raving about the HUGE LIES spewing from the obama camp, she was livid that he was sending out FALSE FLIERS filled with VICIOUS LIES about her.
mad mad mad.
but wait...could this possibly be the same woman who just a couple of nights ago was cooing “i am honored to share the stage with barack obama?” wasn’t that her at the debate in austin?
wait, could it be that those nice words were just said to make her look like she was expressing an actual, genuine emotion?
or perhaps today’s histrionics were not so genuine?
this, to me, is the huge difference between hillary and mr. obama. i BELIEVE WHAT HE SAYS. with hillary, i feel she’s just saying what she’s saying because she’s trying so very desperately to NOT LOSE.
one article i read last night said that if the tables were turned - if obama had just soundly lost 11 states, if hillary had about a hundred more delegates, if superdelegates were all flocking to her...everybody would declare that obama’s campaign is DEAD.
the article pointed out that nobody has asked her if she thinks her campaign JUST MIGHT BE DEAD.
if i was a reporter, that’s what i’d ask.
i think a truly genuine emotion she must surely have, somewhere deep in her soul, is that of anger and disappointment that SHE IS GOING TO LOSE.
i, personally, have lost out on many many things over the years. all kinds of stuff that i tried, that i wanted to do, many things that just didn’t work out.
but today, i had a great workout, i came home to my loving husband and very good dog and two delightful cats, and things are good in my world. i’m sure that hillary will have something to fall back on after she has lost. she’s still a senator. she still has chelsea, and bill..well, two out of the three surely should give her some peace and happiness.
that is all for this saturday afternoon.
ok then,
GO OBAMA! grace.

i’ve spent too much of the evening tonight putting information about my video on DIGG. have you heard of digg? i guess if you know about lots of internet stuff, you’ll be all OF COURSE I KNOW ABOUT DIGG. but i didn’t, but kevin helped me so at least now the video is out there.
i’m having difficulty getting it seen by more people. so HEY, if you’re reading this right now and you haven’t watched the video yet, PLEASE CLICK IT RIGHT OVER THERE ON THE RIGHT. right now. right?
unless you have dial-up and you can’t. in which case you should try to find somebody with a fast connection and make them let you watch it there!
here’s one of the tops i wear in the video. i bought this particular shiny and fabulous top at a yard sale in west hollywood, not long after i’d moved there. there were always yard sales, all the time, because people were constantly moving in and out of LA, and many of the people had fabulous stuff they were getting rid of. i bought many things for my apartment at sales.

i also wore this silver dress that randy gave me for xmas. notice the white OBAMA stickers that i pasted all around the waist. it’s hard to see them well in the video itself.

when i was singing the song wearing this dress, i was barefoot, and i kept bouncing up and down because the carpet felt good and bouncy. i had to make myself stop bouncing so much.
i’m planning on putting up a few of the video outtakes up here. pretty soon. before the year is out. before next xmas. before obama is actually sworn in.
ok ok ok i have to do something fun now because it’s FRIDAY NIGHT!

which makes me feel good, even thought there is now snow on the ground. i don’t know anybody who isn’t totally totally sick of winter. randy said again that he’s NOT LIVING HERE WHEN HE’S OLDER. i assured him that we’ll all move someplace warm.
i’m ok inside with my multiple cups of tea, but i have to go out soon, which will first involved shoveling snow off the car. that will be followed by trying to drive the minivan down our street which is never plowed. if i didn’t have to go out, i could spend the day right here in my chair.
yesterday i was all fired up by two columns in the springfield paper, but then we found out that our internet service provider was being switched RIGHT THEN. they had sent an e-mail saying they’d tell us when it was going to happen, but when we tried to turn on our computers we suddenly had to CHANGE IT ALL RIGHT NOW. it ended up being a big pain, involving calling the new provider a few times, turning things on and off, kevin changing the settings on the router, on and on and on, not to mention all the accounts that i switched from the one e-mail to the other. i’m sure i didn’t think of all of them.
the annoying thing is that we had no choice in all of this; the provider (insight) was bought by comcast, so we had to switch whether we wanted to or not.
but here’s a little bit about those two columns yesterday - first, ellen goodman from the Washington Post tried to make the claim that Poor Hillary just can’t win because she’s a woman, and that barack is somehow stealing all the “woman traits” of reaching out to people instead of being in a “typical male” attack mode. she doesn’t see that we want barack because of who he is, and if hillary was a man she’d be just as uninspiring. hmm, if she was a man, married to bill...that would certainly change the dynamics of everything, wouldn’t it? i guess if she and bill were married but both men, then we would have all been spared the monica lewinsky debacle, wouldn’t we? instead maybe it would have been mike lewinsky.
but i digress. what i really wanted to point out is george will’s column. he talks about hillary’s constant harping on all her vast experience. he writes:
The president who came to office with the most glittering array of experiences had served 10 years in the House of Representatives, then became minister to Russia, then served 10 years in the Senate, then four years as secretary of state (during a war that enlarged the nation by 33 percent), then was minister to Britain. Then, in 1856, James Buchanan was elected president and in just one term secured a strong claim to being ranked as America’s worst president. Abraham Lincoln, the inexperienced former one-term congressman, had an easy act to follow.
take THAT, hillary.
and now i go shovel snow.
ok then, happy friday,

tonight i said to kevin I AM NOT GOING TO EVEN OPEN UP MY COMPUTER TONIGHT.
but then we were going to watch the jon steward show but it was a repeat.
i said to kevin DON’T LET ME OPEN UP MY COMPUTER.
he said, sorry, i have to go to sleep now. he tried walking up a very long flight of stairs today which caused a whole lot of pain, so he was very tired.
and then suddenly i had NOBODY TO TELL ME NOT TO START LOOKING AT STUFF ON THE COMPUTER.
so here i am, overly-tired, but i can’t stop looking things up.
like, for example, all the Chinese people. i know they’re out there, reading what i write, because when i look at the statistics of the site, the two most overwhelmingly large links to it are from something called BAIDU, which, according to wikipedia, is the LEADING CHINESE SEARCH ENGINE. all, i guess, because in october some chinese woman posted a photo of my vegetable garden on her website, for some reason. but they’re STILL READING RIGHT HERE.
fascinated, i’m sure, by the writings of this average american woman.
i’m hoping, in the not-too-distant future, to have an all-new, updated website, and i will be able to once again have comments. when i first started this site i had comments, but then they were infiltrated by hundreds of spam comments each and every day, so we had to eliminate all comments.
but once i have comments again, maybe i’ll be able to find out just what these chinese people are thinking. because so far none of them have e-mailed me yet.

david gergen, former adviser to pres. clinton, is talking now. he’s saying he doesn’t understand why hillary lost SO BADLY in wisconsin. he says she need a “new message” with “emotion.” GOOD LUCK.
she lost badly because barack obama is going to win. because people believe what he has to say. they keep saying in hillary’s camp that “momentum doesn’t matter.” do they think that if they keep saying that, it will make any sense at all? maybe they think that if they keep saying it, they’ll believe it themselves.

the video on you tube is as good as it’s going to get. actually, if you click the little box on the right-hand corner of the video screen it makes the image a little bit smaller and PERFECT.
so i’m pretty much done with the obsessing.
about this one particular thing. right at the moment.
if you want to watch the video, you now can just click on that link right over there on the right of this page, the first title under VIDEOS.
in other news...no other news. amy highly recommends going to ST. JOHN for a vacation, because apparently it’s an ideal place. i haven’t seen any pictures yet or anything because they just got back and are running all around. but maybe i’ll see the photos, and who knows, maybe i’ll be able to post a few of them here. to remind us all that at least SOMEPLACE it’s warm and beautiful.
all the valentine’s candy is now officially gone. except for the bag of hershey’s kisses that randy gave me. they’re still in the sealed bag in the freezer. as long as i DON’T OPEN THAT bag, things will remain fine and not completely CRAZY CHOCOLATE OUT OF CONTROL.

11:38 pm
damn again.
at least i realize and acknowledge that many, if not most, of the problems i find in my life are brought upon by me myself and i.
but just because i realize and acknowledge this, it doesn’t mean that i’m going to CHANGE MY NUTTY BEHAVIOR.
i want to write in detail about the frustrating time i’ve had ever since midnight last night. i’ll try to condense it a little, but if you get bored, just stop reading already.
i was lying in bed at midnight, trying to figure out how to improve the video quality of my video. which is a video.
i decided that it couldn’t hurt to try to create a movie from the video i’d created using the pinnacle editing software. after you make a complete movie, you then have to make it into some kind of format, like dvd or vhs or mpeg. i thought that maybe making a smaller mpeg file might work.
but why wait till the morning, when i was wide awake? so i got up and screwed around with it for an HOUR.
at which point it was ONE A.M., much too late to go to bed at a reasonable hour, especially when i had lots of work today and then rehearsal tonight.
it didn’t work. i finally went to sleep.
so today kevin and i went to best buy and purchased pinnacle version ELEVEN. the one we had was only version EIGHT.
eleven is MUCH MUCH BIGGER than eight.
in between other things, i installed it on my computer, even though the computer kept giving me these warning signals that SOMETHING WASN’T WORKING.
i ignored them.
tonight i finally had a chance to copy the movie from kevin’s computer to mine and then tries to put it into my new and improved pinnacle program.
it didn’t work, because i don’t need just the finished movie, i also need all the little individual video and music clips.
i decided to make a test video. i imported a couple of video clips and one audio clip.
AND IT WORKED! VERY THRILLING. but then when i went to make this small section of the movie into an mpeg file that i’m sure would be CRYSTAL CLEAR AND BEAUTIFUL, there was a message that i was missing media file x000.dtl.
WHAT IS MEDIA FILE XOOO.DTL???
whatever it is, it made the audio portion of the video go away, plus the program refused to let me make it into an mpeg file to put on you tube as a test.
grrrr.
at least it did SOMETHING.
but just not enough.
so i could continue to mess around with this whole damn thing for a very long time, i feel. or i could just say THAT’S AS GOOD AS THIS VIDEO IS GOING TO GET.
at least outputted to you tube.
this, of course, doesn’t please me.
surely there is a way to figure out the mysterious MEDIA FILE X000.dtl.
surely.
i’m NOT going to spend the night obsessing about it, because i’m too tired from staying up ridiculously late last night.
maybe i’ll ask kevin to see if he can figure out the elusive MEDIA FILE x000.dtl. he’s much more tenacious than i am.
i did get an e-mail last night from a YOU TUBE VIEWER, who said they didn’t think i’d be able to get a much sharper image on my video.
WHAT KIND OF DEFEATIST ATTITUDE IS THAT?
imagine if i was getting paid to do this, how rich i’d be.
i’m really really really going to sleep now.
after i read a little bit of news stories about barack obama online.
last night i read the most ridiculous thing i’ve heard so far - that somebody (clinton/clintonites?) are saying that people who are crazy about obama are, well, crazy...crazy like followers of HARE KRISHNA or CHARLES MANSON.
jeez. that’s all i have to say.
goodnight, goodnight,

and already 210 people have watched the video. this is amazing, considering that only 28 people had viewed it a couple hours ago. plus, i can’t even find the video when i search for it on youtube. so clearly many more video-searching savvy people are watching than me. maybe they’re all tap-dancing aficionados.
nobody has written to give me any ideas about making the video less fuzzy. there’s always some technical thing impeding my complete happiness, whenever i’ve made any kind of movie or video.
somebody from BELGIUM commented on it!
more importantly, here’s a great photo of kevin and all our visiting dogs.

from left to right, they are shortie, shadow, gizmo and of course mollie. shortie and gizmo have just had baths, so they don’t stink.
kevin is looking slightly disheveled, but that’s because he’s RECUPERATING still.
shortie and gizmo were only day visitors, but shadow is still right here beside me on the couch. i gave him a bath today and now he looks even more adorable. i think we’ll keep him. amy might protest this a little bit.
this is shadow’s last night with us, as a matter of fact. we will miss him. maybe they’ll let him come visit us sometimes.
ok, here’s one more photo, of the video shoot. it was such a gorgeous sunny day; i wonder if we’ll see any more sun anytime soon.

this is on the steps of the state capitol. mollie was thrilled to be running around outside.
tomorrow...a very busy day. next weekend i’m just going to SIT AROUND.

midday on february 14th, hopped up on gobs of valentine chocolates, i was going to sit down and write something, but i wasn’t able to sit still in order to focus. just a little too wired. kevin gave me some good gifts including jon stewart’s book, and a small and reasonable box of chocolates. but then at work the only guy at the office gave all the women EACH a box of chocolates. a pretty big box. my first thought was to TAKE IT HOME AND FREEZE IT, to keep it out of my own way. but almost concurrent was the thought I’LL OPEN IT RIGHT NOW AND HAVE JUST ONE PIECE.
of course i opened it. of COURSE i had more than one piece.
later in the day i had no energy for writing because of my post-sugar crash.
but what a fine way to crash.
we went out to dinner and it was fun to get dressed up, but the restaurant, mariah’s, was of course packed with people. even though we had a reservation we had to wait to sit down. the thing that was amazing was the number of people pouring in the door who hoped to get a table WITHOUT RESERVATIONS. at least ten different people came in and asked about the wait (45 minutes at least) and then slunk out, abashed. i wanted to yell at them as they left IT’S VALENTINE’S DAY YOU MORONS YOU NEED A RESERVATION!
but i didn’t, because i was all dressed up. no point in making a scene when wearing fancy stockings.
the food was delicious, but the service was somewhat painfully slow, and i watched a couple seated across from us. as opposed to the title character in “juno,” the brash, wisecracking pregnant teenager, this young woman was just...lumbering. she and her boyfriend just sat there mostly, not talking much and slurping their cokes. they made teen pregnancy look not fun at all.
the restaurant’s manager, a very friendly guy, told us that valentine’s day is the third most popular day at the restaurant. first is mother’s day, second is new year’s eve. hmm. have we ever taken mom out for mother’s day? i definitely can’t recall ever going out to eat for that holiday. nor for new year’s eve.
and even though it was nice to not cook, i think it would be even nicer to stay home and have something delicious, without the crowds of people.
or, of course, there’s the option of being someplace WARM AND FABULOUS, like amy and jim were.
shadow continues to be a very good dog. it’s fun to have two dogs instead of one, but i doubt that mollie would be happy if she had to give up being an only dog. the cats are trying enough for her.
i’m going to POST MY BARACK OBAMA MUSIC VIDEO on youtube today, maybe even on this site. we only need to work on the musical accompaniment that kevin recorded for me yesterday, editing it to fit the video.
i’ll let you know when it’s up.

it’s doggy day care today. in addition to shadow, amy & jim’s very cute little dog, today we also have gizmo and shortie, mom and dad’s very cute little dogs.
i took mollie with me to pick up the latest additions, and on the ride home shortie and giz too turns flinging themselves onto the front seat where mollie was sitting, which caused her to immediately scramble to the back seat because she DID NOT WANT TO SHARE A SEAT WITH THESE BEASTS.
right now everybody is milling about, sniffing everything, and i just hope nobody wants to pee. we’ve already taken them out in the backyard about six times, and they’ve been here less than a half hour.
i had a wonderful window of opportunity to do some video editing this morning, but instead i think i need to focus on the doggy day care.

is that now i am WIDE AWAKE. my husband is fast asleep. he, too, took a nap this afternoon, but it’s because he was VERY VERY TIRED. he got up much earlier than i did, plus he’s CONVALESCING.
we were very busy today, at least for somebody who can’t get around so easily. we’re making a video, and we went to a few different locations and he was walking all around doing the shooting. so he probably overdid it.
but why isn’t he better? when will he get better? i feel that surely there must be something i can do to help him get better.
we also have a houseguest right now, and that’s probably a little tiring for kevin, too. although he’s about the cutest guest we could have - amy and jim’s little dog shadow. shadow has been very good and he’s so cute and little. the cats don’t quite know what to make of him. they’re not really scared, because he’s so little, but he is definitely a dog, so they’re very reserved. they don’t get too close.
last night shadow was sleeping with us, and mollie was down at the foot of the bed, but then at about three a.m., shadow decided he needed to be by himself, so he came into the living room to sleep. i worried that he was going to get lonely and brought him back to bed, and he pretty quickly went back into the living room again. i worried because even though other people have watched him at amy and jim’s house, and he has stayed here before with amy and jim, shadow has never had a sleepover all by himself. so i worried that he was scared.
but he seemed fine today; he picked up one of mollie’s many toys and started flinging it up in the air and chasing it, and he was more energetic than i’ve ever seen him. maybe he was happy because we wasn’t overshadowed by the somewhat insane and boisterous noodle and numie, the other two dogs of amy and jim.
he got more and more worked up, but then he threw up. i think he was a little too excited, plus he’d gotten into the cats' food earlier. shortly after that he had a couple of accidents, of both the poop and pee variety. i think this is because we let him out before we left, but then when we got back we forgot to let him out again. he obviously had forgotten that he could get out the doggie door.
right now he’s sleeping on the couch next to me, but i’ll try to coerce him into the bedroom. mollie isn’t totally crazy about not being the only dog around here but i’m trying to teach her to be a good hostess.
so luckily there’s plenty to keep me busy inside tomorrow, since it’s going to be ridiculously cold outside.
ok then,
saturday night grace.

(very very extraordinarily depressing) jeremiah johnson...

just another friday night, sitting around watching another western...
this isn’t really a western, it’s more a depressing mountain man story. robert redford, and man, his life really stinks.
it’s nearing eleven p.m. and i guess the question is WHY am i watching this, when i should be watching some comedy that has a decent chance of being somewhat entertaining, and at least, not depressing?
because kevin continues to convalesce, i keep renting movies for him. lots of westerns. old westerns, new westerns. i didn’t realize there were so many new westerns. many of them are bad (according to kevin; i don’t generally watch the westerns).
but tonight i got home and kevin had just started “jeremiah johnson” and i said, is it depressing? because just the first few shots, they looked like they were depressing. no, he said. but he’d only seen the movie once, THIRTY YEARS AGO.
so...jeremiah has come across a woman who has gone crazy because she saw her children being slaughtered by indians, and then his wife and child (his kind of adopted child; the crazy woman thrust him upon robert) were slaughtered also by indians, and then he went crazy himself and burned down the home that he built all by himself and it seemed to take a very long time to build and it was pretty nice for a log cabin and then there’s a kind of long montage of him killing the crow indians, one by one, because they killed his wife and child..
i’m just hoping it’ll be over someday.
robert redford is now very, very depressed and sad. his makeup looks a little bit fakey, but he’s very sad nonetheless.
he’s eating a rabbit that he has cooked over a fire.
please, please let it end.
someday.
amen.
friday grace.

randy makes me feel very very guilty if i don’t post things ALL THE TIME EVERY MINUTE OF THE DAY.
i had MANY IMPORTANT OTHER THINGS TO DO today, including obsessively continuing to monitor the results from yesterday. one thing i found extremely interesting is that hillary had to lend her campaign 5 million dollars last month. at the same time that obama raised a record amount of 32 million. i was delighted that they mentioned this tonight on the news. obviously she’s FLOUNDERING.
anyway, that’s not why i’m writing right now. i finally downloaded a bunch of photos, and so here they are.
some of them are from christmas. this one is the CUTEST KITTY EVER, little honey, also known as the killer kitty.

and here’s my cutest fella ever, before his knee surgery. he went to the doctor today by the way, and the doctor said “it’s not time to panic yet.” which i guess is good news? at least he didn’t seem alarmed by the fact that kevin’s knee has been locking up, which seems like something to worry about to me. but then again i have a tendency to worry a lot.
anyway, here’s kevin on xmas eve.

and this is david with noodle, who can be an extremely wild dog, but then he settles down so you can take a good photo of him.

mom, with her new boots that randy gave her. she saw these boots when they were out shopping and she LOVED them but then because she is mom and doesn’t like to shop and rarely will buy anything unless forced into doing it, she didn’t buy them, so he went back and got them for her.

and randy, with a “welcome” sign that the very crafty sandy made for him.

i bought myself these socks and bought mom a pair, too.

here’s a very cute photo of amy and jim. usually if i point a camera at her, she shrieks DON’T PUT THIS ON YOUR WEBSITE!!! but i don’t remember her saying it this time, probably because she was in a happy, getting presents kind of mood.

moving right along, here we are on new year’s eve, listening to kevin’s band in the very very chilly milk barn. that’s a barn where they do farm-type things.
mom and randy:

me and karen:

here’s me with kevin, in between sets.

and YET MORE PHOTOS...here we are at the tutu tango fundraiser for the ballet company. i really wish i had a picture of erica, because she was wearing a beautiful dress. here’s randy and me.

randy bought me that dress and jewelry for xmas, by the way. also the very cool shoes.

WHEW. that was exhausting. i must go to sleep, because i’m having a very busy day tomorrow.
ok then, goodnight,
very productive wednesday grace.

i turned on the sound on the tv, and now i’m totally annoyed because all the news stations have projected numbers for delegates winning - and they’re all QUITE DIFFERENT. annoying. i could stay up all night to find out what really happened, but would that be a wise decision?
probably not.
and then i flipped onto the show “project runway,” where these designers or wanna-be designers have to make different kinds of outfits and then they get judged by celebrity judges like heidi klum, and one of them gets kicked off every week, just like all the other reality shows involving doing something and then getting kicked off...
and it occurred to me how interesting it would be if we made candidates do that kind of thing. not necessarily designing an outfit, but doing whatever. different things - sure, why not design an outfit, and maybe sing a song, try some dancing with the stars, bake some kind of fancy dessert, play some poker, be on some kind of quiz show.
forget about voter apathy, just think how many people would tune in, how many of them would call up and vote. what better way to decide an election than having people vote from the COMFORT OF THEIR OWN HOMES?
maybe if i stay up late more often i’ll come up with more brilliant ideas like this.
ok, maybe it wouldn’t work entirely, but it would certainly be fascinating to watch the different candidates singing. and then, in addition to the audience voting, they could also be critiqued by simon, paula and randy. brilliant, i’m telling you.
i’m pretty sure barack would win the dancing contest. if you look him up on youtube, there’s a great clip of him dancing with ellen on her ellen degeneres show. he looks good.
i wonder if any of the candidates would be able to bake anything, though. something simple and clasic, like chocolate chip cookies. remember that comment that hillary made a long time ago, about not staying home and baking cookies? she got into a lot of trouble over that; maybe since then she’s tried it. i somehow can’t picture her baking cookies.
i should really really go to sleep now.

instead of watching election results, on the tv right now is this totally retarded-looking thing on comedy central; it’s this guy who has a variety of different dummies. i didn’t think there were any ventriloquists anymore. maybe he’s funny; i feel too lazy to get up and turn on the volume, or to change the channel for that matter.
we were watching “a daily show” with jon stewart and then “the colbert report,” my two new favorite shows ever. and then kevin went to bed, and i’m sitting here updating the cnn polling results every few minutes.
kevin isn’t making good progress on his knee recovery, i’m sad to say. he goes back to the orthopedic surgeon tomorrow, who had BETTER have something encouraging to say! enough already with the pain and the lack of mobility.
did i mention the crazy fog we had here yesterday? it was bad in the morning and then got worse and worse and i had to drive a little yesterday night and i was SURE I WAS GOING TO DIE, the fog was so dense. whew, i made it home alive.
crazy, crazy weather. i expect we’ll be having tornadoes next, and maybe a hurricane later.
ok ok ok,
please go to bed soon grace.

i’m tired of it. i was working out today at the fit club and started watching some news about the election, lots and lots of speculation blah blah blah blah and i got sick of it. instead, i flipped around the stations and found a charming little cartoon called “charlie and lola;” this little brother and sister are English, and very funny and the animation is interesting and it was infinitely more entertaining than listening to the pundits drone on and speculate their heads off.
ok then,

ok, it’s not ALL about the money...but surely, SURELY, the huge amount of money is very significant.
you probably read already that Obama raised $32 million in January.
what about hillary? how come nobody released her figures?
finally they did. her campaign chairman announced today that during january she raised about $13.5 million.
well, he probably didn’t announce it, he probably tried to whisper it to somebody in a very nonchalant way, like it’s no big deal that barack raised more than TWICE as much money as she did.

Robert DeNiro Hits the Campaign Trail for Obama
by Bonney Kapp
The Obama campaign has invited several celebrities speak at events across the country, including Oprah Winfrey, John Legend, Usher, and Chris Rock. But today actor Robert DeNiro surprised supporters and members of the press alike by appearing on stage to help introduce Senator Barack Obama at a rally in Newark, NJ.
The campaign didn’t event hint there would be an A-list Hollywood actor alongside Senators Kennedy and Obama at the home of the New Jersey Nets. The reason per traveling press secretary, Jen Psaki - celebrity appearances aren’t always certain and should the actor have had a change of plans, bad press might have followed.
The normally politically inactive actor made the trek across the Hudson River from his home in New York City to explain why he was speaking out on behalf of Obama. “I’m here because finally one person has inspired me, one person has given me hope, one person has made me believe that we can make a change - that person is Barack Obama.”
DeNiro began his remarks by mocking Hillary Clinton’s argument that Obama doesn’t have enough experience to be president. “Barack Obama does not have the experience to be President of the United States and I can prove that. Remember, he wasn’t experienced enough to vote to authorize the invasion of Iraq,” he said sarcastically. “Instead, even then he voted against the war he said would lead to a war of undetermined length and undetermined costs and undetermined consequences. He just didn’t get it!” DeNiro said as the crowd laughed in response.
“You know, that’s the kind of inexperience I can get used to. That’s the kind of inexperience our country deserves. But if this election were just to be decided on the quantity of experience, Dick Cheney would be our next president. I prefer the quality of Barack Obama’s experience,” DeNiro said to applause.
He concluded his six-minute speech by engaging the young people in the crowd. “I couldn’t understand why you weren’t involved in the political process. Thanks to Barack Obama, now I get it, because until he came along, no one spoke to you. No one listened to you. No one gave you reason to believe you mattered. No one inspired you. You wanted to vote, you just didn’t have anyone you wanted to vote for. Well, you know what? I felt the same….until now. With you leading the way, we are answering Barack Obama’s call. It is a call to action. It is a call to take back our government. It is a call for change we can believe in. It is a call to ban together, all of us, to elect the next President of the United States, Barack Obama.”
DeNiro watched the speech behind security barricades and did not talk to the press corps about his decision.

i was doing some RESEARCH this morning, and i found this video. you might have already seen it. it’s posted several places on you tube, but i like this one because there’s an intro to it, a guy talking about the video. it’s definitely worth watching.
black eyed peas/barack obama
in other news...last night the family and randy came over for some incredible carryout deep dish pizza, and i wanted to show them the new doggy steps we got for mollie. kevin bought them in a kit that had to be assembled; they’re three little steps that she could use to climb up onto the bed. she, of course, won’t even acknowledge their existence. she either leaps up onto the bed like she usually does, or she tries over and over if she’s tired, but finally makes it or gives up and sleeps in her own bed on the floor.
maybe someday she’ll decide she likes the steps.
meanwhile, randy came into the bedroom and said I’LL climb the steps. and then he did! with a huge CRACK as the little steps of course couldn’t support his weight. BECAUSE HE’S A PERSON, NOT A DOG.
i assumed this would be obvious to him, that steps built for a dog wouldn’t support a person, but he kept saying “they’re made of wood, why wouldn’t wood hold a person?”
kevin pointed out that his guitars are made of wood, and you can’t step on them.
luckily none of the guitars were lying around on the floor, so randy couldn’t test that theory.
ok then,
sunday morning grace.
