i took such a crazy amount of photos in las vegas on our three-day trip, and i’ve been doing my best to pare them down to show you.

on the morning of may 2nd i had to take this photos of this duck with its little gaggle of ducklings down at the water before leaving for st. louis.

i was missing lester already as he crouched down as far as kitteningly possible to try to grab something fascinating in the water.

it was a fine nonstop plane ride on southwest; we rode in a newer plane which seemed roomy, and arrived in las vegas around five in the evening.  here’s one of our suites at the signature suites at the MGM.

mom in the bedroom with floor to ceiling windows and a TV that rose up out of the desk.

the signature is made up of three tall towers, and we were on the 26th floor.  this is the view from our balcony, and at’s the fantastic lazy river at the MGM, along with at least three or four other big pools.  because we were staying at the signature we could use these wonderful water features, and we sure did.  over there on the right is the new monorail that connects various locations up and down the strip.

we took the very long walk from our suites through the MGM and finally out onto the strip, las vegas boulevard.  everything is such a crazy long walk in las vegas; just getting to and then out of the maze of the MGM was kind of tiring.

we had dinner at the hard rock cafe, just across the street from the MGM.  it was relatively early by the city that never sleeps standards so it wasn’t very crowded.  we had delicious burgers and afterwards i stopped to look at the many interesting music things that covered the walls.

this photo can’t adequately do justice to this crazy bustier that madonna wore.

along the wall was this series of cells from “yellow submarine,” a beatles movie i love, and that kevin got to see for the first time not long ago.  here’s a great review from 1999, written by the late great roger ebert.  Yellow Submarine Review

here’s jeremy, the “nowhere man.”

this is the head of the blue meanies, and when i saw the movie as a kid i was very, very scared of him.  this is at the end, after he’s been conquered and is filled with love.  as i recall.  unfortunately, they didn’t have a cell of “the glove,” the blue meanie leader’s giant attack glove.

and now i just found a special wikipedia yellow submarine page, where you can read all about The Glove, plus everything else Yellow Submarine-related.  Yellow Submarine on wikipedia

i thought it funny that this is just one little accordian.

we did a little more walking around, a small amount of gambling (not fruitful), and spent a good amount of time at one of the giant walgreens on the strip, buying food we could prepare in our full kitchens in our suites.  a very exciting first night in vegas!

ok then,

mrs. h.
