we had booked a hotel on captiva island for sunday and monday nights, so on saturday morning we decided to get ready for that little trip.

well, for some reason kevin decided that the best use of his time would be to thoroughly, and i mean THOROUGHLY, clean the hubcabs.

yes, HE CLEANED THE HUBCAPS.

well, they were quite grimy.  but still, we were ON VACATION, and it never would have occured to me in APPROXIMATELY ONE MILLION YEARS to even THINK about even STARTING TO CONTEMPLATE cleaning the hubcaps!

but it was a beautiful morning and he was outside and happily cleaning away.  and i do have to say that of course he did a really good job, and they still look great!

DANG, why didn’t i take a picture of him doing that?

the thing is, because i didn’t write it down, i don’t have the slightest idea of what i might have been doing.  maybe gathering together stuff to take to captiva.

we decided to drive over to ft. myers beach, and once again, i can’t exactly recall what we intended to do there.  luckily i did take some pictures, so i do know what we actually did.

my friend erica recently went to hawaii, and took almost no photos.  she feels that people spend so much time taking photos and/or videos that they don’t actually SEE and experience things.  i see her point, but if i didn’t take pictures/write down what i’ve seen, it goes POOF right out of my head.

well, there are some things that do stick with me, usually because of the moron-ness of me.

but more on that in a minute…

we were going to stop at this outdoor tiki bar at a hotel where mom and i had stopped when we went there last year.  but when we got to the hotel, they had no parking, so instead, we decided to go to this nice little strip mall and get some ice cream.

first, we sat on the curb outside the van and ordered a part for the van on amazon.  some light had been going on and kevin wanted to get some thing to see what was wrong, blah blah blah, not so important, but we knew that we could order things on amazon and they’d arrive at our campground, cause we’d gotten the part for the fridge.

anyway, we sat there a while, then we got some delicious ice cream, then we wandered around to the back of the strip mall where there was a marina, and we sat for a good long time enjoying the day.

quite idyllic.

then we moseyed back to the mall and went into the little gift shop where mom and i had gone before, and kevin found this great compass that said HUGHES on it!  so of course he bought it.

and then, we’d been gone about an hour and a half from the car, maybe longer, we finally got in the car…

AND THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR WAS WIDE OPEN!!!

i mean, WIDE OPEN!!!

I had left it open!

inside were both of our computers, plus a few other highly steal-able things.

NOTHING HAD BEEN DISTURBED.

i assume that when people walked or drove by and noticed that the big sliding door was open, that OF COURSE SOMEBODY MUST BE INSIDE.

because people are always freaked out about locking their doors, nobody leaves their doors unlocked, and of course THEY NEVER LEAVE THEM WIDE OPEN!!!

now that’s something i wish i’d taken a picture of!

hopefully i won’t ever do something quite this daffy again.

but odds are pretty good that i will.

sooo…that night, we found a movie theater near the campground that was showing the hobbit 3 movie.  we were excited to see it, and i found a theater that said it served food.  it’s called the Prado Cinema, and if you’re ever in Ft. Myers, you must go there!

we arrived pretty early, so we ordered an appetizer plate and took it outside.

yes, it was completely delicious, with the brie drizzled with honey glaze and fresh, warm peda bread and blueberries and maybe cranberries.  as we sat there, a guy was playing some instrument – i recall the saxophone, but it couldn’t have been cause he was also singing – we were on this comfy padded couch with a tinkly fountain and the guy playing the music and i had a glass of wine and it was EXCELLENT.

the guy was playing some wonderful song and we’d never heard it, so i looked it up.  it’s a jimmy buffet song called “creola,” but when i later listened to jimmy buffet singing it, he wasn’t nearly as good as this guy in ft. myers.

we went inside, and the seats were like big lazy boys with a button to reline it, plus a little tray table for the other delicious food we ordered.  this particular theater was pretty small, and many of the other people going in had giant tubs of popcorn and enormous sodas, but WHY do that when you could order something fabulous plus alcohol???

plus the movie was good, but not as good as the first two hobbits, but it was a splendid ending to our day.

ok then!

mrs. quiet saturday afternoon hughes.
