Final Day in Florida – March 2, 2019

by grace on April 15, 2019

We took our final walk on the beach over to Seaside.

Here’s us, looking almost the same as we did the first day. except for our nice new A30 baseball caps.

it’s funny that there was no name on this banner. or maybe the restaurant is called the shrimp basket?

This was the day before the race they were having that started just outside Seaside, and i’d read that there was going to be some kind of expo on saturday. why did i want to see the expo? i don’t know; maybe because there might have been something interesting there.

there wasn’t. we walked through the town which was much more crowded than we’d ever seen it, but it took a while to find the expo. it was just a bunch of junk, plus loud and crowded. we just walked through and out the other side, and back down the road to our condo. i think this was the warmest day.

the only thing we bought in Seaside was some alcohol – i can’t believe they had wine called Grace, so i had to buy a can even thought it cost seven bucks.

I sat on the beach on last time…

and then, because it was so warm out and because i knew this was my last chance, i went swimming in the ocean. well, not so much swimming, more like standing around and then paddling a little bit. i felt very brave.

one last night, and then we got up early on sunday to get out of town before the runners finished the race and there might be a traffic jam. we left by 8:45, definitely a record.

It was a long first day, and this was the day a big tornado wiped out a little town in Alabama. We didn’t know anything about the tornado til we got to the motel that night, but we were only about 40 miles from it, in Montgomery. It was pouring so hard that Kevin had to stop at a rest area for a while. it’s a good thing iw asn’t driving at the time because i’d have been quietly freaking out.

We made it all the way to Clarksville, so it was a pretty quick drive the next day and we were home around one i think.

the kitties were happy to see us. i emptied out my backpack and les climbed right in.

a while later kevin took this picture of lester.

later in the afternoon both kitties were lying on their tower, and all was peaceful.

the end.

ok then,

mrs. h, mid-april, as maybe spring slowly starts to arrive here…

Thurs. Feb. 28th in Florida

by grace on April 7, 2019

We drove way east on Thursday, all the way to Panama City Beach. We drove past many ugly high-rise hotels and arrived at Pier Park, this great big tacky shopping area.

we went into a couple of stores, but there wasn’t so much we were interested in. we did find some cute lake-related thing in one souvenir shop, but that’s it. we walked across the road to the beach, but it wasn’t anything to write home about. here’s the big entrance to the place.

kevin found some of this don francisco coffee at the publix and bought a lot of it, plus other coffees. here’s our beverage display.

i went running on the beach later; i did a whole lot of running there in florida. because how often am i going to be able to run on the beach? not often.

ok then,

mrs. h.

Wednesday in Seagrove Beach

by grace on April 6, 2019

Wednesday, February 27th started out with pouring rain.

it was a mellow day, including yet another trip to the grocery store where we danced in the aisle.

the rain let up and kevin historically got his toes wet!

after that he made dinner, also kind of historical. i recorded some of his efforts.

While the chicken baked we stepped out onto the balcony to watch another beautiful sunset.

And then we ate Kevin’s delicious meal, a perfect ending to the day. he’s blurry here because he was moving so fast getting everything ready.

ok then,

mrs. h.

another walk on the beach

by grace on March 29, 2019

on monday, our second full day in Florida, kevin and i headed east on the beach after i’d gone on a nice run. i kept taking so many videos, but i’m not going to put many of them up here. This in Monday, February 25th, another beautiful day in paradise.

We walked farther than we thought we would, and ended up at Eastern Lake, a place we’d seen the year before when we were on our bikes.

here’s a photo of that cool signpost.

we walked back to the condo along the road, and took a few minutes’ rest on this cute bench. looking at it now i suddenly realize those are supposed to be bites out of the watermelon!

after our walk i had to hang out on the beach again, and i saw something waaaay out in the water, and then finally realized it was a guy paddleboarding.

we’d passed a pizza place on our way back and decided to get a pizza for dinner. we decided carry-out would be best because we could eat with an ocean view.

the pizza wasn’t bad, but the salad was just a whole bunch of iceberg lettuce with maybe some cheese.

seriously, we have to stay longer next year.

ok then,

mrs. h., struggling to find the time to keep up with all the photos/videos of our trip…
