blue, blue skies…
March 18th, 2010 Posted in key largoat least it’s sunny here today, after a morning of lots of fog, but we so rarely have that vivid, intense sky like in key largo.
here, finally, are the rest of the pictures of that trip.
these are a few photos that dad took – here are some of the many flowers all around the b&b.

this is one of the many little shops in that place we went where there was the giant lobster outside.

a great view of the back of the WORLD WIDE SPORTSMAN – up there is the balcony where you could sit if it wasn’t cold and windy. those aren’t glass windows, but thick plastic coverings which are probably rolled up today because it’s warm there now.

i love this photo that dad took inside the store – can you see that woman in the blue shirt standing on the boat? she looks like she’s a statue, or like she’s about to burst into song.

he also took a few pictures of the inside of our b&b, before it was too trashed.

their bedroom, which was lovely even though it wasn’t nearly as big as ours (we got the big one because it was upstairs).

here’s the dock where we started our glass bottom boat tour. this alleges to be the actual african queen.

i don’t know if you can read the fine print, but it says you can book the boat for a “cruise.” it doesn’t look particularly seaworthy.

while waiting for our trip, we took a walk along the dock and there was yet another pelican.

and as we set off, a whole row of them…

we wanted to sit up on top, but for some reason the vast majority of people elected to sit inside, downstairs. the view was beautiful up there.

just one of the many fancy expensive boats we passed as we headed down the canal towards the sea.

one fancy boat after another, and they were all docked in front of multimilliion dollar homes.

this was the last home out on the point before the open water – i feel it’d be a little scary being there during a hurricane.

i kept taking so many pictures of the wide open sea – the color was just so vivid and beautiful…

…and here’s the beginning of the coral reef. OH NOW, i just remembered that kevin took a bunch of pictures of our trip with his phone, and there’s at least one of the glass bottom…so i’m not really done posting pictures after all. right now retrieving the photos from his computer seems like WAY too much work.

kevin and dad were drooling all over the huge fancy boat as we were heading back o the dock.

we had to wait a while to take off from the ft. lauderdale airport because there were many planes in line. i looked out the window and there was a big line of planes in back of us, but by the time i dug around and found my camera, i couldn’t get a great shot.

and then i started taking pictures when we were up in the air. we passed over lots and lots of swamp land. one lone road cut through the swamp and i wondered what it would be like, driving down that road.

there were these two long trails of cloud…or were they contrails?

it luckily finally got so dark that i couldn’t take any more photos. i kept shooting as the sun was setting because it looked so dazzling, but it didn’t come across in the pictures. maybe i need an even MORE fancy camera.
ok then,
thursday hillbilly grace.
